6.2.3 Setting of proportional gains
Potentiometers KPU and KPD allow for an easy adaptation of the proportional gain to
the respective requirements of the application.
Control parameters KPD and KPU on the way valve have been preset at the factory.
After mounting the way valve to a cylinder, the control parameters need to be adapted
on the jobsite under real operating conditions.
Setting of proportional gain KPU towards 100% position
Set the KPU potentiometer so that with a setpoint step-change w from 11.00 to 12.00
mA an anti-hunting transient effect of the actual value x occurs (see Fig. 6,
characteristic curve 2). In case of larger step-changes, however, an overshooting may
be observed, which is acceptable.
Predefine setpoint step-change from 11
→
12 mA.
Monitor the time characteristic of the actual value x in the control station.
Use KPU to set the gain so that the step-response corresponds to characteristic
curve 2 in Fig. 6.
Setting of proportional gain towards 0% position (KPD)
Reduce setpoint w in one step from 18 to 6 mA. Observe the actual value x in the
control system. The static actual value x after the setpoint step-change is 5 mA. The
minimum actual value may only fall below the static actual value by 0.2 mA at the
most (no undershoot).
If this is not the case, the KPD potentiometer is to be adjusted so that the above-
mentioned condition is met with a setpoint step-change from 18 to 6 mA (see Fig. 6,
characteristic curve 2).
Predefine setpoint step-change 20
→
5 mA.
Monitor the time characteristic of the actual value x in the control station.
Use KPD to set the gain so that the step-response corresponds to characteristic
curve 2 in Fig. 6.
