Step 7. Set thumbwheel to appropriate setting given below. After about 5
seconds, the LED display should show a box and line character.
This character is used to indicate the status of the optical sensor.
Step 8. Adjust the first (100’s) digit on thumbwheel. Notice that increas-
ing or decreasing the thumbwheel number will step motor in one
direction or the other.
Step 9. Adjust thumbwheel until Puc enters the sensor. Verify that the
Puc is centered in the sensor slot. Adjust position of sensor as
necessary.
Step 10. Meter voltage should be from 3.50 to 4.00 volts DC. With the
sensor open, the voltage should be from .100 to .200 volts DC. If
the open reading is too high, try cleaning the sensor with a moist
towel that can fit between the teeth of the sensor. Replace any
sensor that does not fall within this voltage range.
Step 11. Make note of the voltage reading when the sensor is open. This is
the calibration voltage to be obtained with the notch of the Puc in
place.
Step 12. Using thumbwheel, take Puc as close to centered in the sensor as
possible. There is a dot on the back of the sensor that approxi-
mates the center, but even on a properly calibrated mechanism the
notch is often not totally accurate.
Step 13. Loosen three screws that secure motor to mounting plate. This
will allow rotation of motor to accurately center the notch in the
sensor. Adjust motor position to obtain the calibration voltage
(from 8. above). By looking at the dot on back of the sensor, it is
possible to determine which direction to rotate the motor. Note
that there are normally two steps on the motor that will allow
centering of the notch. If the motor appears to run out of room in
one direction, then step the motor the other direction and readjust.
Step 14. Gently retighten the three screws securing motor to mounting
plate, ensuring that motor is not moved from the calibration
position during the process (i.e. first take all three screws to snug-
tight and then fully tighten).
Step 15. Verify proper centering of the notch by gently pushing the Puc
very slightly in a clockwise direction. The tool should not move
far enough to step the motor. Release the Puc and it should return
to center. The voltage should be within 0.02 volts of the calibra-
Motor
