SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FABRICATOR 251

WARNING
FLYING SPARKS AND HOT METAL can cause inju r y.
Chipping and g r inding cause flying metal. As welds cool,
they can th r ow off slag.
1. Wea r app r oved face shield o r safety goggles. Side shields
r ecommended.
2. Wea r p r ope r body p r otection to p r otect skin.
WARNING
CYLINDERS can explode if damaged.
Shielding gas cylinde r s contain gas unde r high p r essu r e.
If damaged, a cylinde r can explode. Since gas cylinde r s
a r e no r mally pa r t of the welding p r ocess, be su r e to t r eat
them ca r efully.
1. P r otect comp r essed gas cylinde r s f r om excessive heat, mechanical
shocks, and a r cs.
2. Install and secu r e cylinde r s in an up r ight position by chaining
them to a stationa r y suppo r t o r equipment cylinde r r ack to p r event
falling o r tipping.
3. Keep cylinde r s away f r om any welding o r othe r elect r ical ci r cuits.
4. Neve r allow a welding elect r ode to touch any cylinde r .
5. Use only co rr ect shielding gas cylinde r s, r egulato r s, hoses, and
fittings designed fo r the specific application; maintain them and
associated pa r ts in good condition.
6. Tu r n face away f r om valve outlet when opening cylinde r valve.
7. Keep p r otective cap in place ove r valve except when cylinde r is in
use o r connected fo r use.
8. Read and follow inst r uctions on comp r essed gas cylinde r s,
associated equipment, and CGA publication P-1 listed in Safety
Standa
r ds.

Engines can be dange r ous.
WARNING
ENGINE EXHAUST GASES can kill.
Engines p r oduce ha r mful exhaust gases.
1. Use equipment outside in open, well-ventilated a r eas.
2. If used in a closed a r ea, vent engine exhaust outside and away
f r om any building ai r intakes.
WARNING
ENGINE FUEL can cause fi r e o r explosion.
Engine fuel is highly flammable.
1. Stop engine befo r e checking o r adding fuel.
2. Do not add fuel while smoking o r if unit is nea r any spa r ks o r
open flames.
3. Allow engine to cool befo r e fueling. If possible, check and add
fuel to cold engine befo r e beginning job.
4. Do not ove r fill tank — allow r oom fo r fuel to expand.
5. Do not spill fuel. If fuel is spilled, clean up befo r e sta r ting engine.
WARNING
MOVING PARTS can cause injury.
Moving pa r ts, such as fans, r oto r s, and belts can cut finge r s and hands
and catch loose clothing.
1. Keep all doo r s, panels, cove r s, and gua r ds closed and
secu r ely in place.
2. Stop engine befo r e installing o r connecting unit.
3. Have only qualified people r emove gua r ds o r cove r s fo r
maintenance and t r oubleshooting as necessa r y.
4. To p r event accidental sta r ting du r ing se r vicing, disconnect
negative (-) batte r y cable f r om batte r y.
5. Keep hands, hai r , loose clothing, and tools away f r om moving
pa r ts.
6. Reinstall panels o r gua r ds and close doo r s when se r vicing
is finished and befo r e sta r ting engine.
WARNING
SPARKS can cause BATTERY GASES TO EXPLODE;
BATTERY ACID can bu
r n eyes and skin.
Batte r ies contain acid and gene r ate explosive gases.
1. Always wea r a face shield when wo r king on a batte r y.
2. Stop engine befo r e disconnecting o r connecting batte r y cables.
3. Do not allow tools to cause spa r ks when wo r king on a batte r y.
4. Do not use welde r to cha r ge batte r ies o r jump sta r t vehicles.
5. Obse r ve co rr ect pola r ity (+ and –) on batte r ies.
