Height above ground is measured using trailing runners
mounted on the drill drawbar. The trailing runners’
measurement points are placed at the centre of the drill,
just before the front seed coulter rows.
AutoPilot requires constant oil supply from the tractor via
a double-acting hydraulic coupling.
When the Autopilot equipment is mounted, it is also
possible to use the AutoCheck function, see below.
The drilling depth is displayed as a scale value between 0
and 40. A low value indicates a shallow drilling depth
and a high value indicates a deep drilling depth.
6.7.2
AutoCheck
AutoCheck is a drilling depth verification system that
measures the drill height above ground and displays this
height on the home screen (J).
Height above ground is measured using trailing runners
mounted on the drill drawbar. The trailing runners’
measurement points are placed at the centre of the drill,
just before the front seed coulter rows.
Figure 6.21 The home screen
AutoCheck does not require any oil supply from the
tractor.
6.7.3
Limitations
All driving using AutoCheck and AutoPilot is
done at the sole responsibility of the operator,
who will also be required to check correct
operation.
Be sure to regularly check the actual drilling
depth.
•
When the soil is too coarse and the soil clods too
large, the sliding runners will travel on top of the
clods. As a result, the system will interpret the soil
clod surface as the sowing bed, causing the machine
to drill too shallowly. As a rule of thumb, the soil clod
size under the drilling machine should not exceed 10
cm in diameter.
•
To achieve the best results, speed during drilling
should be kept uniform. If the tractor pulls the drill at
low speed up a hill and at high speed down a hill, the
operator should pay close attention to AutoPilot
operation. The system will be affected since the
amount of flying soil affects the operation of the
trailing runners, and the result will differ markedly at
low and high speed. During normal use, this should
not pose any problem.
•
After the seed hopper has been filled and the machine
is lowered into the ground, the speed should initially
be kept relatively slow to allow the system to
correctly adjust the drilling depth.
•
Raise the machine to High-Lift height prior to
reversing. Check whether the runners have snared the
ground.
•
AutoPilot/AutoCheck does not operate at driving
speeds below 2 km/h (or at a standstill).
6.7.3.1
Hydraulic system requirements, tractor
AutoPilot: 20 l/min (adjustable). 200 bar. Adjustable.
(Flow adjustment is carried out from the tractor. See the
machine’s instruction manual.)
Load sensing should not be used together with AutoPilot.
Counterpressure in the tractor’s return input should not
exceed 20 bar for any extended period of time. If the
tractor has a pressure-free return input, it is advisable to
connect this to the AutoPilot return line.
If adjustment of the oil flow is not possible, or if the
tractor cannot prioritise the hydraulic coupling used to
raise the drill, the hydraulic oil supply to AutoPilot must
be shut off whenever another hydraulic function is
required.
6.7.4
Basic system settings
To achieve optimum operation, the system should be
adjusted to suit the conditions in which the machine is to
be used.
