Step 4. Begin to Cut
1. Turn on the coring drum by moving the Drum Speed Lever up to the right. Using an
RPM reader set the speed according to the size of drum you are using.
Recomended Core Bit Speeds
8 inch diameter Core Bit 250-270 RPM
10 inch diameter Core Bit 230-250 RPM
12 inch diameter Core Bit 210-230 RPM
18 inch diameter Core Bit 190-210 RPM
2. Begin to lower coring assembly by turning the Steering Orbital clockwise until the
Pilot Bit engages the surface.
3. When the coring drum contacts the substrate use Auxiliary Water Hose to cool the
drum until it has fully seated in the pavement.
4. Continue coring keeping the Core Rotational pressure between 500 and 750 PSI. Too
much down pressure will cause the core drum to lift the MC450. This may result in
damage to the equipment.
The coring process varies depending on the substrates you are cutting through. For best
results, slow and steady feed works best. If the down pressure is too high, the pressure will
begin to lift the MC450 off the ground and change the coring angle. Should this occur back
off the steering orbital until the MC450 settles back on its base. Then continue the coring.
