OPERATION

The oil mist lubricator assembly (Figure 29)

supplies lubrication essential to the operation
of the spindle assembly. All components of the
assembly must be in good condition to insure
successful delivery of lubricant to the spindle.

The lubricator assembly contains two filters

to assist in removing contaminants such as
moisture, oil and particles from the air supply.
Oil and other contaminants trapped by the co-
alescing filter are constantly drained from the
filter bowl. Moisture collected by the second fil-
ter, a combination filter/regulator, automatical-
ly drains when the air supply is turned on or
when a high liquid level is reached in the filter
bowl. Outlet pressure is controlled by an ad-
justable regulator and indicated by a pressure
gauge.

Air flowing through the oil mist lubricator

siphons spindle oil from the reservoir to the
sight dome. The oil falls into a venturi a drop at
a time and is converted into an oil mist. The
finest mist is delivered to the spindle while the
remaining larger mist particles are returned to
the reservoir. Oil mist entering the spindle
housing reforms into oil drops that wet all bear-
ing surfaces. The air delivering the lubricant
also serves to cool the bearings and prevent
condensation.

The lubricator assembly should be periodi-

cally disassembled and thoroughly cleaned,
see page 42.
