The Model 1700 is equipped with an oil mist
lubricator assembly located under a cover at
the rear of machine. This assembly mixes oil
with air to create a pressurized oil mist which
lubricates the spindle bearings and prevents
moisture condensation within the spindle
housing. The assembly requires a properly
maintained oil level and air supply.
OIL SUPPLY
Make sure oil level is visible in the oil level
sight gauge (Figure 23, page 27). The reser-
voir is filled and flow rate is adjusted at Urschel
Laboratories before shipping. Flow rate is
checked in the lubricator sight dome and
should be maintained at 40 drops per minute.
To refill reservoir, see “Lubrication”, page 37.
To readjust flow rate, see “Adjustments”, page
43.
A low oil level switch is located in the lubri-
cator reservoir. If the oil level reaches a dan-
gerously low level, this switch will shut off the
impeller motor.
NOTE:
If the machine will be operating in
room temperature higher than 90
°
F (32.2
°
C.)
or lower than 60
°
F. (15.6
°
C.), the viscosity of
the oil will change, making it necessary to
readjust the oil flow rate. Maintain 40 drops per
minute. See “Adjustments”, page 43.
AIR SUPPLY
Proper spindle lubrication requires a de-
pendable supply of clean, dry air to the lubri-
cator assembly. The air supply (150 p.s.i. -
10.34 bar maximum) is connected to the air
inlet (Figure 23, page 27). A flexible hose
should be used to prevent damage due to vi-
bration.
The air shut-off valve is provided to shut
down the lubricator when the machine is not
used for extended periods of time. It is recom-
mended, however, that the lubricator remain in
operation during normal downtime and week-
end shutdown periods. Oil consumption is
slight and the presence of pressurized oil mist
prevents moisture condensation within the
spindle housing.
A coalescing filter is provided to remove im-
purities from the air supply. The plastic line at-
tached to the bottom of the bowl carries any
moisture from the machine; place a container
at the end of this line to catch moisture if de-
sired. A small amount of air will normally be
discharged from this tube.
A pressure gauge is attached to the outlet
side of the pressure regulator. Normal setting
for the pressure gauge is 15 p.s.i. (1.04 bar)
and is controlled by the air pressure adjust-
ment knob. To adjust air pressure, see “Adjust-
ments”, page 43.
A pressure switch is installed in the oil mist
supply line. This pressure switch is factory set
at 5 p.s.i. (.34 bar) and will automatically shut
off the impeller motor when mist pressure
drops below this point.
NOTE:
All adjustments on the oil mist lu-
bricator assembly are correctly set at Urschel
Laboratories Inc. before the unit is shipped. To
maintain and/or readjust lubricator assembly,
see page 43.
