I n s t r u m e n t O p e r a t i o n
This chapter describes the basic operation of the Model 8587A Laser
Photometer and provides information on the use of controls, indicators, and
connectors found on the front and back panels.
T u r n i n g o n t h e L a s e r P h o t o m e t e r
The Laser Photometer power switch is located to the left of the power cord
at the back of the instrument. When the Laser Photometer is turned on, the
photometer defaults to the PURGE mode. The LCD display shows the
voltage level.
K e y p a d P u s h b u t t o n s
Depress the labeled keypad to perform the indicated functions:
UPSTREAM Instrument samples from the UPSTREAM port,
used for chamber concentration for fit testing and
challenge aerosol concentrations for filter testing.
PURGE Instrument samples at high airflow through a high
efficiency filter when obtaining a zero detector
background level and prior sampling.
DOWNSTREAM Instrument samples from the DOWNSTREAM
port, used for mask concentrations for fit testing
and downstream filter concentration for filter
testing.
Important Note
When switching between upstream and downstream sample modes, it is
necessary to press the PURGE button.
