If I disconnect my
camera from the USB
port, I receive a
message saying that it
was not removed
correctly. Why is that
and how should it be
disconnected?
The device was not turned
off in Windows.
Since the camera is a
storage medium, it is
possible that it was being
written to or read by
Windows when it was
disconnected. Abruptly
disconnecting the device
may damage the directory
structure or the memory
layout. The device must,
therefore, be released
before it can be
disconnected from the USB
port.
This is carried out as follows:
an icon is displayed in the
right-hand corner of the
taskbar for disconnecting
hardware (image of a PC
card with a green arrow).
Double-click on this icon and
then select the device that
you wish to disconnect by
clicking on ‘Stop’. You will
then receive a message
saying that the device can
be disconnected.

Problems with the software

The software only works
correctly in Windows 98,
Windows ME, Windows
2000 and Windows XP.
The USB port does not work
correctly.
Test the USB port using a
different device or see the
USB troubleshooter at

The camera has not been
connected to the computer.
Connect the USB cable.
The error message
‘Fail connect to
device, please try
again’ is displayed
after opening the
Camera Manager.
The window opens,
but I cannot obtain
files from the
camera’s memory.
The drivers have not been
installed correctly.
Uninstall the drivers, remove
the USB cable and reinstall
the drivers.
The camera does not
give an image in the
application
(webcam).
Another application is open
and is using the camera
image.
Close the other application
first before starting the
program.
An old version of DirectX is
installed.
Download the latest version
of DirectX from
www.microsoft.com/directx.
A live recording
gives a displaced
image and the wrong
colours.
Drivers for an old webcam
are still installed.
Find these drivers and
uninstall them (see chapter
19.2).
