Maintenance and Adjustment
Page 70
Tyre Wear
As the tyre tread
wears down, the
tyre
becomes
more
susceptible
to
punctures and failure. It is estimated that
90% of all tyre problems occur during the
last 10% of tread life (90% worn). It is,
therefore, false economy and unsafe to use
tyres until they are worn to their minimum.
In
accordance
with
the
periodic
maintenance chart, measure the depth of
the tread with a depth gauge, and replace
any tyre that has worn to the minimum
recommended tread depth specified in the
table below.
Minimum Recommended Tread Depth
Under 130 km/h
(80 mph)
2 mm (0.08 in)
Over 130 km/h
(80 mph)
Rear 3 mm (0.12 in)
Front 2 mm (0.08 in)
WARNING: This motorcycle
must not be operated above
the legal road speed limit except in
authorised closed course conditions.
WARNING: Only operate this
Triumph motorcycle at high
speed in closed-course on-road
competition or on closed course race
tracks. High speed operation should
only then be attempted by riders who
have
been
instructed
in
the
techniques necessary for high speed
riding and are familiar with the
motorcycle’s characteristics in all
conditions. High speed operation in
any
other
circumstances
is
dangerous and will lead to loss of
motorcycle control and an accident.
WARNING:
Operation with
excessively worn tyres is
hazardous and will adversely affect
traction, stability and handling which
may lead to loss of control and an
accident.
When
tubeless
tyres
become
punctured, leakage is often very slow.
Always inspect tyres very closely for
punctures. Check the tyres for cuts,
imbedded nails or other sharp
objects. Operation with punctured or
damaged tyres will adversely affect
stability and handling which may lead
to loss of control or an accident.
Check the rims for dents or
deformation.
Operation
with
damaged or defective wheels or tyres
is dangerous and loss of control or an
accident could result.
Always consult your authorised
Triumph dealer for tyre replacement,
or for a safety inspection of the tyres.
