4.2.2.6. With the bearing puller, pull the two ball bearings (12) and the grease retainer
(107) off of the drive shaft (5) at the same time. The bearings will have to be
replaced.
4.3 BEARING CAP REMOVAL
4.3.1. Remove the four socket head cap screws (60) in the bearing cap (14). The cap is now
loose and can be removed. The bearing shims (38) and grease ring (23) can also be
removed from the bearing bore in the back end plate (350).
4.4 BACK ENDPLATE REMOVAL
4.4.1. Install two eye bolts in back end plate and attach to overhead crane. Put slight tension
on eye bolts.
4.4.2. Remove four screws (354).
4.4.3. Using two pry bars at the joint between the motor housing (17) and back end plate
(350), pry the end plat off of the motor housing.
4.5 SHAFT ASSEMBLY – COMPONENT INSTALLATION
4.5.1. Heat the grease retainer (109) to 150-170 degrees F. Check the temperature with a
heat stick. Place the grease retainer on the shaft (5) flat side against the shaft shoulder.
4.5.2. Heat the rotor bearing (11) to 150-170 degrees F. Check the temperature with a heat
stick. Place the bearing on the shaft (5) against the grease retainer (109) shoulder as
shown in assembly drawing (section 2.5) letters out.
4.5.3. Hand pack the bearing (11) with grease to 50% full, working grease into the cage and
around the balls.
4.5.4. Install the sleeve (360) on the shaft (5) against the bearing (11). Install an assembly
consisting of the spring retainer (66), spring (353), grease ring (304), and shoulder bolts
(144), with the grease ring out. Fill this area full with grease.
4.5.5. Heat the bearing lock nut (46) to 150 degrees F, then install the bearing lock nut (46)
and torque to 400 ft. lbs. Check to make sure that the bearing is seated by trying to
rotate the grease ring (109) by hand. It should not move. If it does move, over torque
the lock nut until it cannot be turned.
4.5.6. Remove the bearing lock nut (46).
4.5.7. Heat the grease retainer (107) to 120-150 degrees F and install on the drive shaft (5)
flat side against shaft shoulder.
4.5.8. The thrust bearings are a matched set and mounted in tandem. Some of the bearings
are matched and marked on the outer race. Be sure to mount the bearing on the shaft
so the match marks are aligned.
