Fault
n
Groove is too wide or too
narrow for the rods.
n
Groove depth varies
between slots.
n
Grooves are too shallow
for rods.
n
Grooves are too deep for
rods.
n
Groove in worktop is burnt.
n
Jig is slipping on material.
Cause
Cutter or guide bush is the
incorrect diameter or cutter is
not running true.
Jig has lifted when routing.
Cutter has slipped in the collet
when routing.
Cut depth not deep enough.
Cut depth too deep.
Cutter is blunt.
Clamps are not secure.
Remedy
Check concentricity of cutter
and guide bush. Cutter should
be a radius cove cutter of
suitable diameter to suit hot
rods. A 30mm guide bush is
required.
Reposition clamps so jig does
not lift when routing. Ensure
router does not foul clamps.
Check cutter is being held
in the collet, replace collet if
necessary.
Reset cut depth depending on
diameter of rods. For example
for 12mm rods, between
4-6mm depth.
Replace worktop and reset cut
depth depending on diameter
of rods. For example for 12mm
rods, between 4-6mm depth.
Always use sharp cutters.
Check clamps for wear. Clamp
securely.
