Importing Address Data
CoPilot gives you two options for importing address data from outside sources: the
Import
Custom Places
and
Import POI Set
Wizards. Both options are available in Planning Mode
via the
Tools
menu. Using either option results in addresses that are displayed as pushpins
on the map and can be searched for using the Points of Interest address entry tab in the Trip
Planner window.
Custom Places vs. POIs
Custom Places refers to a limited set of addresses (less than 1000) that you can add to
CoPilot by using the
Import Custom Places
Wizard or the
Add Custom Places
mouse
mode (see page 34). You can edit custom places at any time through the
Manage Custom
Places Wizard
found in the Tools menu in Planning Mode. The custom place name,
address, and POI category assignment can all be edited.
POI Set refers to a set of addresses stored as a separate POI data set. You can have only
one POI set at a time, but there is no limit to the number of addresses in that set. You
cannot edit the addresses in the POI set once they have been imported.
Import Custom Places
The
Import Custom Places
Wizard
enables you to import addresses from
your Outlook Contacts database, an
Excel file, or text file. If you are using
another type of database or contact
manager, you can export your
contacts/locations as an Excel or text
file before importing them into CoPilot.
By default, addresses entered as POI
Custom Places are assigned to the
Custom
POI category, but you can
change this assignment at any time.
