ZN: Zone Temperature

This input is not used if the controller is operating in generic mode. Neither the MP501 nor a BAS
system can use this input if the MP501 is configured as generic.

Outputs for Generic Applications

The MP501 includes four (4) outputs.

Table 5

lists the outputs and their functions in generic mode.

Table 5.

Outputs (generic mode)

Output

Function

Binary output 1

Drive open or stage 1 (TRIAC)

Binary output 2

Drive close or stage 2 (TRIAC)

Binary output 3

Interlock device (relay)

Analog output (AO)

Controlled actuator (0–10 Vdc)

Binary Output 1/Binary Output 2

Binary outputs 1 and 2 are 24 Vac TRIAC outputs that switch ac common. They can function in two
different ways:

They can drive a tri-state modulating actuator. For some applications it may be more cost
effective to use this type of actuator rather than a 0–10 Vdc actuator

Figure 9, p. 25

 shows a

wiring diagram with the MP501 being used to control this type of actuator.

Alternatively, binary outputs 1 and 2 can be used to control the two separate binary outputs in
stages. The MP501 will first turn on stage 1 (binary output 1). Then, as the control loop senses
a larger demand, stage 2 (binary output 2) will be controlled on

Figure 10, p. 26

 shows a wiring

diagram with the MP501 controlling staged outputs.

Note:

The MP501 controls only one actuator. You cannot have both a 0–10 Vdc actuator and a tri-
state modulating actuator connected to the controller at the same time.

Binary Output 3

This binary output is a relay with a maximum current draw of 1 A. This relay energizes whenever
the control loop in the MP501 is enabled and de-energized when the control loop is disabled (refer
to the section,

“Loop Enable/Disable,” p. 28

). Typically, this relay controls a fan or pump. If the

control loop is disabled, the interlock relay is de-energized.

AO: Analog Output

The analog output on the MP501 is a 0–10 Vdc output with a maximum current draw of 10 mA from
the connected device.

Figure 11, p. 27

shows a wiring diagram with the MP501 controlling this type

of actuator.

Note:

The MP501 controls only one actuator. You cannot have both a 0–10 Vdc actuator and a tri-
state modulating actuator connected to the controller at the same time.

Overriding Outputs

The MP501 includes a manual output test. Use this feature to manually control the outputs in a
defined sequence (refer to the section,

“Manual Output Test,” p. 43

).

Wiring Diagrams

Figure 9, p. 25

 through

Figure 11, p. 27

show three ways to wire the output on the MP501.
