b) Electrical safety
Attention, important note!
Only persons with relevant electro-technical knowledge and experience
should carry out the installation! *)
If it is installed improperly, you risk:
• your own life
• the life of the person using the electrical system.
If it is not installed properly, you risk severe damage to property, e.g., by fire.
You face the risk of being held liable for personal injury and material damage.
Contact an Electrician!
*) Specialist knowledge required for the installation:
In particular, the following expertise is required for installation:
• the applicable „5 safety rules“: Switch off power; secure against switching back
on; determine voltage-free status; earthing and short-circuiting; cover or fence off
nearby live parts
• Choose appropriate tools, meters and, if necessary, personal protective equip-
ment
• Evaluation of the measurement results
• Selection of the electrical installation material to ensure the shutdown conditions
• IP protection types
• Installation of the electrical installation material
• Type of mains supply network (TN system, IT system, TT system) and the con-
nection conditions that follow from them (classical earthing, protective earthing,
required additional measures, etc.)
If you do not have the expertise required for the installation, do not install it
yourself, but entrust the work to a qualified electrician.
c) Operation
• Carefully inspect the voltage tester for damage before each use. If the voltage
tester is damaged, do not use it. If so, dispose of it in an environmentally friendly
manner. A defective glow lamp cannot be replaced.
• The voltage tester must not get damp or wet. Never use the voltage tester in humid
conditions (e.g., dew, fog, rain, etc.).
• Only use the voltage tester at an ambient temperature of -10 °C to +50 °C.
• Only use the voltage tester to test AC voltages in the range of 100 - 250 V/AC with
a frequency of 50 - 500 Hz. The permissible voltage for the test procedure is also
indicated on the voltage tester.
A test on DC voltages is not permitted (e.g., for photovoltaic systems).
• Test the function of the voltage tester before each use on an intact/functional/
sound voltage source.
• Do not use the voltage tester as a replacement for a conventional screwdriver.
Heavy mechanical stress when loosening or tightening screws will damage the
voltage tester.
• Always use only one voltage tester. Never measure with two single-pole voltage
testers at the same time.
Function
A series resistor and a light bulb are located between the blade point on one side of the voltage
tester and the contact surface on the handle end.
Now If you connect the blade tip to a voltage-carrying line and touch the contact surface at
the handle end with your fingertip (direct skin contact required!), a current will flow through
the your body.
Thanks to the series resistor in the voltage tester, the current is harmless. However, it is suffici-
ent for the glow lamp to light up.
However, the operation of the single-pole voltage tester can cause problems. It is
therefore important to follow the instructions in the next chapter „Operation“.
