4 Basic Operation
4.1 Introduction
This section will describe the basic operation of the HALO.
Please read this section in its entirety
before operating the unit.
4.2 User Interface
The HALO employs the familiar graphical user interface similar to the Microsoft Windows
.
operating
system. The interface uses tool bars, status bars, radio-buttons, check boxes, and text boxes for making
selections and entering values. Navigation of the HALO program is as simple as navigating your word
processing program.
The physical interface is through the built-in touch screen.
Touch Screen
The touch screen uses a pressure sensitive film to determine where on the screen the user is touching.
This pressure sensitive technology provides high-resolution selectivity for accurate pointing. Simply
touch the screen where you would normally click with a mouse. You can use your finger or a stylus, like
an unopened pen.
A
Virtual Keypad
is built into the HALO operating software for use when numerical input is required.
Clicking on a numerical input box will bring up the virtual keypad for data entry.

Like a calculator, a ‘C” key is provided to clear the current entry.
The decimal point key is sometimes used for field separation on inputs with various parts. For example,
an IP Address will have three “dots” (129.168.1.1), and the date and time fields are separated by using
the decimal key as well (11.24.06 for a date of 24-Nov-2006, and 13.10.15 for a time of 13:10:15). Some
entries will not support the use of a decimal point.
