3.4 Preparing the Sample Line
Importance of a high integrity sample line for low PPB measurement
Careful preparation of the sample lines is important to achieve accurate response of the HALO. If
the sample line is not properly prepared, the impurity content of the sample gas may be recorded
higher than expected, thereby degrading the response of the instrument. Due to surface
adsorption, trace amounts of moisture or other trace gas impurities may be retained in the tubing.
Once moisture or other trace gas impurities have been allowed to contaminate the sample line,
additional purging is required. This section provides instructions for assembling and leak testing
the sample line.
Precautions to be taken to measure moisture accurately
Measuring moisture is challenging since minute air leaks can cause erroneous high readings
especially at low PPB concentrations. The following precautions are to be taken to measure
moisture accurately and with confidence:
Follow Table 3-2, Preparing a Sample Line, and Table 3-3, Leak Testing Procedures.
It may take 24 hours for moisture to reach and stabilize at low PPB concentration values
depending on length of sample tubing from the source, and how well the sample line was initially
purged.
