5.3 Quick access buttons
You can change important settings by pressing a single button using the F1, F2 and F3 buttons on the operating
panel:
Briefly press F1
You can choose between two different label lengths here:
•
Simple: A normal label is produced that can be heat-sealed in a single step.
•
Button hole: A special long label can be produced for delicate garments that cannot be
directly heat-sealed. This is so long that it can be guided through a buttonhole in a loop.
It can be processed in one or two steps (see chapter 6.13).
Tip:
The label length can even be switched over if the label has already been printed and
the machine is waiting for the lever to be pressed.
Press F1 longer:
A special function to remove the heat-seal on permanent marking labels is called up. See
chapter 6.31.
Briefly press F2:
Two different heat-seal times can be set for temporary marking: A short time for thin or
delicate fabrics and a long time for heavier fabrics.
Which of the two heat-seal times is used is selected here.
Tip:
The heat-seal time can even be switched over if the label has already been printed
and the machine is waiting for the lever to be pressed.
Press F2 longer:
Load/save text, see chapter 5.6.
Briefly press F3:
Switchover between temporary marking and permanent marking. Individual heat-seal times
and temperatures can be set for the two operating modes (also refer to chapter 4.4).
Press F3 longer:
Whether a label should be heat-sealed or just cut is set with this button. The cutter symbol
appears on the display when F3 is pressed. It means that the lever will only be pressed
very briefly in the next process. Once the label has been cut off, the lever drops
immediately and you therefore receive a loose label. This setting only ever applies to a
single label. The cutter symbol disappears afterwards.
PLUS:
Retract the marking tape.
RESET:
You can prematurely end a running heat-seal operation with the RESET button.
5.4 Operating modes
The machine can be used in three different operating modes:
•
Keyboard
You enter the text to be printed using the keyboard
•
RS 232
The Thermo-Ident is controlled from a PC. The PC must be connected with the Thermo-Ident via a 9-pole
null modem cable. You need suitable software for this.
•
Ethernet
As above, but connection is made via an Ethernet cable.
Important:
Some menu points (e.g. numbering) are only accessible in the keyboard operating mode. These
functions are controlled by the PC software in other operating modes.
Switching between the operating modes is described in chapter 6.21.
You will find the description of the serial interface and Ethernet connection in chapter 1.
5.5 Entering text
You enter the text to be printed using the connected keyboard in the "keyboard" operating mode. This text is
shown in the lower half of the display.
You can enter two lines each with up to 24 characters with the Thermo-Ident 1.
You can enter four lines each with up to 24 characters with the Thermo-Ident 2.
You can move the marker (cursor) to the left, right, up or down using the arrow keys.
