Launch
Before every start, make sure that the
trimmers are set the way you want
them. Due to the extremely high
effectiveness of the trimmers, a
misadjustment at take-off can have
fatal consequences.
With the MIRAGE 2 RS it is not
necessary to take the A-risers in your
hand when launching with skis. On the
contrary, if you hold the A-risers at
take-off, the MIRAGE 2 RS may surge
forward.
Fig. 10.
Braking during start
It is best to take off with the brakes in
your hands only, about 30% applied.
As soon as the MIRAGE 2 RS is above
you, apply the brakes strongly and
briefly to prevent it from shooting
forward. At the same time, you can
take the indispensable control look.
Fig. 11.
Braking during control look
Your MIRAGE 2 RS has relatively short
lines. This allows it to build up a lot of
energy during take-off and overtake
the pilot or break away more to the
side.
WARNING
At higher wind speeds (from approx.
6 m/s) the Speedwing must be
actively held on the ground.
Otherwise the glider may rise above
the pilot on its own.
