2.6 Electronics

2.6.1 Micro processor system
The control board 492-00 is equipped with an 8031 microprocessor whereas the 728-xxx
control boards are based on an 80C320 microprocessor, an enhanced version of the
80C32 processor. Printers with the 728-xxx board meet the EMC directives for CE
marking.
2.6.2 Static RAM
The control board has 128 or 256 Kbyte static RAM used for buffering of graphics data
during printing. The 256 Kbyte capacity used in TTP 5200 and 5250 allows full landscape
printing (210 mm) whereas the 128 Kbyte RAM used in the TTP 5000 and 5100 gives
restricted landscape printing capabilities.
2.6.3 PROM
The control board is equipped with an EPROM or flash PROM capsule holding the printer
firmware, character font sets, character parameters, etc. The flash PROM allows online
downloading of its contents.
2.6.4 Printing
The control board controls the printing. TTP 5000 and 5100 have two standard character
font sets installed whereas TTP 5200 and 5250 have four. Each font can be printed in
standard size, double width, double height and quadruple size, in both portrait and
landscape modes, and as black on white background or the reverse. With TTP 5100,
5200, and 5250 you can also use the underlining font attribute.
Bar code printing is available as well as bit map graphics. The near-paper-end sensor is
actuated when there is 2—4 m left on the paper roll. The paper end & TOF sensor
(reflector sensor) inhibits printing if there is no paper at all in the printer module.
Print speed and paper transport speed is approximately 50 mm per second.
2.6.5 Cutting
The DC-motor first turns in one direction to perform the cutting. The cam on the cam
wheel actuates the cutter-home sensor when the mechanism reaches its home position
again. At this moment, the motor is forced to a quick stop as the drive circuit for turning
the motor in the opposite direction is activated momentarily.
2.6.6 Communications interface
The control board used in TTP 5100, -5200, and -5250 has both serial and parallel
interface ribbon cable-type connectors.
The TTP 5000 control board has only a serial interface connector of the same type, but
there is an optional parallel interface piggy back board (SWC-651-000) that should be
mounted on top of the control board when this type of interface is required.
