5-2 Motherboard Installation
This section explains the first step of physically mounting the H8DCT-HLN4F into
the SC217HD drawer. The 2122TC-DL6RF4 is a highly complicated system. It is
recommended that motherboard removal/installation be done by a Supermicro
trained technician. In case of emergency, following the steps in the order given
will eliminate the most common problems encountered in such an installation. To
remove the motherboard, follow the procedure in reverse order.
Installing to the Chassis
A more detailed procedure is available in Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup .
1. Remove the motherboard node drawer from the SC217HD chassis body.
2. Make sure that the I/O ports on the motherboard align properly with their
respective holes in the I/O shield at the back of the chassis.
3. Carefully mount the motherboard to the drawer by aligning the board holes
with the raised metal standoffs that are visible in the drawer.
Caution: Do not slide the motherboard into a drawer as this will damage components
on the bottom of the board.
4. Insert screws into all the mounting holes on your motherboard that line up
with the standoffs and tighten until snug (if you screw them in too tight, you
might strip the threads). Metal screws provide an electrical contact to the
motherboard ground to provide a continuous ground for the system.
5. Install backplane adapter card into JP3 adapter card connector near the front
of motherboard and attach to the drawer with included screws.
6. Install PCI x16 Riser Card into PCI slot and attach to the drawer with included
screw.
7. Finish by replacing motherboard drawer into chassis.
Caution: To avoid damaging the motherboard and its components, do not apply
more than 8 inch-lbs. of torque when installing a screw into a mounting hole.
