2-7 Jumper Settings
Explanation of
Jumpers
To modify the operation of the moth-
erboard, jumpers can be used to
choose between optional settings.
Jumpers create shorts between two
pins to change the function of the
connector. Pin 1 is identified with a
square solder pad on the printed cir-
cuit board. See the motherboard
layout pages for jumper locations.

Changing the CPU/FSB
Speed
The vast majority of users should
leave JP11 and JP12 on the Auto
setting, as most processors have
preset CPU speeds. (The excep-
tion is if you have an engineering
type of processor. Table 2-16 dis-
plays the settings for these two
jumpers.) However, two settings
in BIOS allow you to adjust this
preset value. To do so, refer to
the CPU Speed (page 4-10) and
the CPU Clock Frequency (page 4-
12) settings to adjust the CPU and
FSB speeds. The CPU Speed set-
ting determines the actual CPU
speed at the core/bus ratio indi-
cated. The CPU Clock Frequency
setting allows you to overclock the
FSB speed.
Note: Overclocking also changes
the PCI Bus speed and is not guar-
anteed by the manufacturer.
