Tape Drive Description 

Size: 

The T10000 tape drive is a small, modular, high-performance tape drive 
designed for high-capacity storage of data. The drive is: 

•

Height = 8.89 cm (3.5 in.) 

•

Width = 14.6 cm (5.75 in.) 

•

Depth = 42.5 cm (16.75 in.) 

Capacity: 

The T10000 uses a technology called partial response, maximum likelihood 
(PRML) to provide the high-density data format that allows the tape drive to 
record and store up to: 

•

T10000A = 500 gigabytes (GB) of uncompressed data. 

•

T10000B = 1 terabyte (TB) of uncompressed data.

•

T10000C = 5 terabytes (TB) of uncompressed data. 

Media: 

The new tape cartridge for this drive uses a single-reel hub for high capacity; the 
supply reel is inside the cartridge and the take-up reel is inside the tape drive. 

Interface: 

The host connections to the T10000 are fiber-optic to provide a high rate of data 
transfer, such as Fibre Channel and FICON. 

Configurations: 

The T10000 supports two configurations: library and stand-alone, 

for a variety of operating system platforms: 

•

Enterprise mainframes (z/OS and OS/390) 

•

Open system platforms (Windows, UNIX, and Linux)
