Non-combustible Mantel Shelf

It is permitted to install a non-combustible mantel shelf at least 48" (122 cm) above the base of the
fireplace. The shelf must be a maximum of 8" (20 cm) deep. In addition, non-combustible finishing materials
such as brick or ceramic must exceed by at least 12" (31 cm) above the shelf.
