5.2.3 Enabling/Disabling Flow Control for the Ethernet Port
After enabling flow control in both the local and the peer switch, if congestion occurs in the
local switch, the switch will inform its peer to pause packet sending. Once the peer switch
receives this message, it will pause packet sending, and vice versa. In this way, packet loss is
reduced effectively. The flow control function of the Ethernet port can be enabled or disabled
through the following command.
I. CLI configuration:
Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to enable flow control for the Ethernet
port.

Enter global configuration mode.
Step 2
l2-control port
port-number
flow-control enable
back-pressure enable
Enable Ethernet port flow control.
When a port works on full state, flow control use
802.3x mode.
When a port works on half state, flow control use back
pressure mode.
Step 3
exit
Return to privileged EXEC mode.
Step 4
show control flow
Verify your entries.
