Luminex Captioner/Student User Guide Chapter 4 Writing on the Captioner/Student Edition
1. From the Opening menu, touch Diag , Steno Test .
The Luminex Captioner/Student Edition automatically writes one steno character at a time starting
with the initial S to the final Z and continues that pattern until stopped.
2. Writing any steno stroke exits the Steno Test mode but keeps the file open. To close the file, touch
End . If the option, Prompt to confirm ending job is active, a confirmation prompt displays. Touch
End to close the job.
Test Mode
Test mode allows you to write to the realtime screen without writing to memory. The Luminex
Captioner/Student Edition must be connected to the computer for realtime writing. A testing facility
may request this mode when you take a certification test or if you were providing captioning services
in a secure location and you were not allowed to leave the area with steno files on your writer.
To turn Test Mode On or Off :
1. Connect the Luminex Captioner/Student Edition to your computer for realtime writing. For more
information, see Connect for Realtime Writing .
2. From the Opening Menu, touch Setup , Test Mode .
3. Do one of the following:

On - make Test Mode active. The Status and Menu bars display in red to indicate that the
Luminex Captioner/Student Edition is in Test mode. The Luminex Captioner/Student Edition
remains in Test Mode until you turn the feature Off or turn the Luminex Captioner/Student Edition
Off.
·
Off - stops Test Mode.
4. To display the Opening menu, touch OK , More , Quit .
