3.4.14.3 LUBRICANTS
ENGINE WITH INTEGRATED REDUCTION GEAR
According to the ROTAX Operation Manual the following oil specification should be met:
• Use only oil with API classification SG or higher!
• Due to the high stresses in the reduction gears, oils with gear additives such as high
performance motor cycle oils are recommended.
• Heavy duty 4-stroke motor cycle oils meet all the requirements. These oils are usually not
mineral oils but semi- or full synthetic oils.
• Oils primarily for Diesel engines have insufficient high temperature properties and additives
which favor clutch slipping, and are generally unsuitable.

revision).

CAUTION
The reduction gear additives, specified “GL4” or “GL5”, are required for a safe lubrication of the
integrated reduction gear. Never use other oil additives!
CAUTION
A full synthetic oil in combination with AVGAS results in abnormally high abrasion and/or residues.
During utilization of AVGAS, only semi-synthetic oils should be used.
NOTICE
Full- or semi-synthetic oils are to be preferred because of the temperature stability and less
residue formation.
