INSTALLING COMBO’DUO
HANDRAILS
9. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR COMBO’DUO HANDRAILS
• Measure the handrail to the required length, while making sure that
the length of the angle pieces and wall returns is added to the length
of the straight profiles. Subtract 98 mm for all wall returns and an
extra 30 mm so that they can be fitted and removed when placed next
to a door frame or wall. For internal angles, leave 148 mm in relation
to the vertex. For external angles, cut the aluminium rail to a length
10 mm short of the vertex.
• Using a 6 mm drill bit, drill a hole through the aluminium rail along the
central V-groove at 150 mm from each end. For a total length of 4 m,
six fixing spacers will be attached at 740 mm intervals. For lengths
less than 4 m, fix the spaces at even intervals between the holes at
each end, while reducing the number of spacers if intervals are less
than 600 mm. Drill extra 6 mm holes along the central V-groove at
even intervals between the holes at each end.
• If an angle piece or wall return needs to be fixed, drill additional 6 mm
holes along the central V-groove at 10 mm from the end of the al-
uminium rail. A 3 mm pilot hole will also need to be drilled on the
horizontal part of the upper handrail section at 10 mm from the end of
the aluminium rail.
• Use a laser level to mark a line at 100 mm below the height of the
upper handrail, which will serve as a guide for centring the holes for
screwing the fixing spacers to the wall. Position the aluminium rail
against the wall at the required height and ensure that the holes in
the rail are aligned with the laser level. Mark the hole positions on the
wall.
• Drill all the holes marked on the wall, while making sure that there is
at least 30 mm of thread in the plug available for the fixing screws (not
supplied).
• Fix the aluminium rail to the wall using a screw at each end, but do
not tighten. Check that all the remaining holes in the rail are aligned
with the holes in the wall while keeping the rail aligned with the laser
level. Correct the position of the holes if necessary. Thread the long
screws through the rail and the fixing spacers, and then fix the rail
only slightly.
• Use the nut, washer and bolt supplied to fix the wall returns / angle
pieces to the middle part of the rail. Use the 3 mm pre-drilled hole to
mount the self-tapping screw supplied and the M6 washer to hold the
upper part of the wall returns / angle pieces onto the rail.
• Once the wall returns / angle pieces have been securely fixed, firmly
fasten the rail with the screws.
• Measure the distance between the bactericidal joints of the wall re-
turns / angle pieces in order to cut the PVC profile to length.
• Cut the PVC profile and make sure that cuts are square and clean.
Position the profile against the rail to determine whether any adjust-
ments are required. Place the cylindrical section (handrail) of the PVC
profile against the corresponding section of the rail while butting one
end of the PVC profile against the bactericidal joint of the wall return /
angle piece. Repeat across the length of the profile and then clip the
lower part of the profile into the lower part of the rail.
