4.13.5.3. Steering program: Crab steering
With this steering program, all steering axles are steered in the same direction, whereby the vehicle
can drive diagonally ( Picture 4-20 ).
Activating steering program
Enable steering program crab steering by using the key on the control panel steering system :
- The red indicator above the key becomes active when the steering program can be carried out
successfully;
- When enabling the program, axle 3 will be retracted.
The buzzer becomes active when the vehicle is ready;
- After enabling the off-the-road mode, the maximum vehicle speed is limited to 15 kph (9.4 mph).
Using steering program
Axles 1 and 2 are mechanically steered by the steering wheel, axle 4 is steering in the same direction.
When the front axles are further steered than the maximum possible angle of the rear axle,
then there will be more friction of the rear wheels.
Examples
The display control panel steering system shows the current steering position of the rear axle.
In combination with the chosen steering program, the current steering position of the vehicle can be
determined ( Table 4-7 ).
However, this is just an indication. The real situation may be different.
Message Description
All axles in straight forward position.
The truck will slightly turn diagonally to the right.
The truck will maximum turn diagonally to the left.
