12. ADJUSTABLE GEOMETRY
Depending on terrain or rider preference, the bicycle can be set up to be short/playful, or long/
slack for stability through the Horst flip chips and adjustable headset cups.
There are five distinct setting points that can hone handling characteristics to suit your style
and terrain (See section:
ADJUSTABLE GEOMETRY MATRIX
).
The headtube angle may be slackened or steepened, through the adjustable headset cups,
with additional fine adjustments through the flip chip.
The bottom bracket height and chainstay length can be adjusted through the flip chip at the
horst pivot.
WARNING! Changing the frame configuration (flip chip position, tire size, fork
length) can alter the BB height and/or the head tube angle, which can have
negative effects on the bike’s handling characteristics and ride quality. Please
refer to your Authorized Specialized Retailer before making any modifications.

The adjustable headset cup is found in the small parts box supplied with the
bicycle.

A steep(er) angle
leads to faster
handling speed and
more direct steering
response.
Cornering becomes
easier in tight terrain
and performs better
on moderately steep
trails. It generally also
increases climbing
performance.
A slack angle will
increase stability and
improve high-speed

riding in steep terrain
giving you a more
stable ride.

STABLE / GROUNDED OBSTACLE CLEARANCE
A lower bottom bracket makes the bike
feel more planted on the ground with
added stability, but reduces clearance
when negotiating obstacles.
A higher bottom bracket gives more
clearance when negotiating obstacles.
