Using the SunEye
The SunEye Extension Kit
When using the Extension Kit, SunEye Extension Kit Mode allows skylines to be triggered by
rotation of the pole. The user is prompted with audio feedback from the SunEye. The SunEye
then automatically corrects the measurements for azimuth and tilt using inputs from the on-
board sensors. Multiple skylines can be captured without needing to collapse and re-extend the
pole. The Extension Kit Mode also accelerates the measurement process by delaying the image
processing of skylines until the session is complete and data is ready to view or transfer to a
computer.
Applications
In many site evaluations, it may be difficult to analyze the exact location of a proposed solar
array for a variety of reasons. Using the SunEye with the Extension Kit allows the user to do the
following:
• Analyze a location that is difficult to access
• Analyze the shading of a roof that is too sloped to walk on
• Analyze the shading of a roof that is made out of a material that cannot be walked on
• Analyze a location that is off limits
• Analyze the shading of a roof that requires authorization to access
• Analyze the shading of a rood when the proper safety equipment is not available
• Evaluate a potential structure for a solar array
• Evaluate a parking lot for a potential solar canopy
• Determine the optimal location and orientation for a new solar roof design
• Avoid using more dangerous measurement methods
• Ladders can de unstable or may not be tall enough
• Scissors lifts and boom lifts can be expensive and hard to operate
SunEye Extension Kit Components
The SunEye Extension Kit consists of an extendable telescoping pole connected to a mounting
platform to securely hold the SunEye 210. The Extension Kit is designed to be used with two
skyline capture features in the SunEye software called Extension Kit Mode and Quick Skyline
Capture Mode.
