Configuring the Switch

Setting Broadcast Storm Thresholds
Broadcast storms may occur when a device on your network is malfunctioning, or if
application programs are not well designed or properly configured. If there is too
much broadcast traffic on your network, performance can be severely degraded or
everything can come to complete halt.
You can protect your network from broadcast storms by setting a threshold for
broadcast traffic for each port. Any broadcast packets exceeding the specified
threshold will then be dropped.
Command Usage
• Broadcast Storm Control is enabled by default.
• Broadcast control does not effect IP multicast traffic.
• The specified threshold applies to each individual port on the switch.
Command Attributes
• Port – Port number.
• Type – Indicates the port type. (100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T, or SFP)
•
Protect Status
– Shows whether or not broadcast storm control has been enabled.
(Default: Enabled)
•
Threshold
– Threshold as percentage of port bandwidth. (Options: 64-1000000
packets per second; Default: 64 packets per second)
•
Trunk
– Shows if a port is a trunk member.
Web
– Click Port, Port Broadcast Control or Trunk Broadcast Control. Set the
threshold for each port, click
Apply
.

CLI
– Specify any interface, and then enter the threshold. The following disables
broadcast storm control for port 1, and then sets broadcast suppression at 500
packets per second for port 2.
