OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Operation During Break-In
Period

Engine

NOTICE

A break-in period of 10

operating hours - 500 km (300 miles)
- is required before running the
snowmobile at full throttle.

During

break-in

period,

maximum

throttle should not exceed 1/2 open-
ing. However, brief full acceleration
and speed variations contribute to a
good break-in.

NOTICE

Engine overheating, con-

tinued wide open throttle runs and
prolonged cruising without speed
variations should be avoided.

Belt

A new drive belt requires a break-in pe-
riod of 50 km (30 miles). Avoid strong
acceleration/deceleration,

pulling

a

load or high speed cruising.

10-Hour Inspection

We suggest that after the first 10 hours
or 500 km (300 miles), of operation
whichever comes first, your snow-
mobile be checked by an authorized
SKI-DOO dealer. Refer to

MAINTE-

NANCE INFORMATION

section.

Engine Starting Procedure

Procedure

1. Recheck throttle control lever oper-

ation.

2. Ensure that the tether cord cap

(DESS key) is in position and that
the cord is attached to your cloth-
ing eyelet.

3. Ensure that the engine stop switch

is in the ON position.

4. Depress the START/RER button to

engage the electric starter and start
the engine. Release button imme-
diately when engine has started.

WARNING

Never depress throttle while start-
ing engine.

NOTICE

Do not engage electric

starter for more than 10 seconds at a
time. A rest period of at least 30 sec-
onds should be observed between
the cranking cycles to allow electric
starter to cool down.

Emergency Starting

1200 4-TEC

Do not attempt an emergency starting
procedure. Have the battery charged
or replaced.

600 HO E-TEC Model

The engine can be started with the
emergency starter rope supplied with
the tool kit.

Remove belt guard.

WARNING

Do not wind starting rope around
your hand. Hold rope by the han-
dle only. Do not start the snowmo-
bile by the drive pulley unless it is
a true emergency situation. Have
the snowmobile repaired as soon
as possible.
