5.2.1
Ambient environment
NOTICE
If there are any structures that radiate heat near the device, you must insulate the heat source.
Very high temperatures will damage the device.
To minimize the effect that the environment has on the measurement results, install the device in a
suitable location. Table 3 shows the suitable ambient conditions for the device.
Table 3: Ambient conditions of the installation location
Ambient temperature:
−40 ... 60 °C (−40 ... 140 °F)
Relative humidity:
Max. 95 % RH (non-condensing)
The device is intended for use in non-condensing environments. The sensor does not
distinguish liquid droplets from dust particles. If the measured airflow contains liquid
droplets, the measurement results are inaccurate.
If the device is installed in a location with occasional condensation, it is recommended to install the
device in an upward position with the terminal cover and tip of the internal sensor probe pointing down.
This helps prevent liquid from accumulating on the insulation.
5.2.2
Location
In ambient air, large airborne particles generally gather and settle close to the ground. Additionally, large
particles represent most of the mass and volume of airborne particles. Because the device measures
total suspended particles, it shows higher particle concentration close to the ground as compared to a
higher installation location.
Select an installation location with a representative sample of dust particles as follows:
•
To monitor specific machinery or area for possible dust emissions, install the device as close to
the suspected dust source as possible.
•
To monitor how much people in the working area are exposed to dust, install the device at an
elevation that corresponds to the height at which an average person is breathing in the dust
