Table calibration

1.  Place a spirit level (not provided) or similar, flat on the Outfeed Table (2) over the Blade

Drum (3) (Image A)

2.  Turn the Cutting Depth Adjustment Knob (8) clockwise to raise the Infeed Table (4) (lower

cutting depth), or anti-clockwise to lower the table (increase cutting depth),  aligning the
Infeed Table with the Outfeed Table

3.  Once the two tables are aligned, check the Cutting Depth Indicator (7) is aligned with

the ‘0’ on the cutting depth scale. If the indicator is not aligned, loosen the Phillips head
screw securing the indicator, and align with ‘0’ (Image B)

Fence installation

1.  Align the Fence Bracket (19) with the Fence Bracket Mount (14) and loosely secure in

place, using the provided bolts (Image C)

Note:

Secure the Fence Brackets loosely, as the Guide Fence (23) will need to be calibrated

later.
2.  Install the Guide Fence to the Fence Brackets, ensuring the Fence Securing Arms (24)

are on the outside of the Fence Brackets

3.  Install the Coach Bolts (18) loosely from the outside. The Fence Securing Arms are used

to secure the Coach Bolts whilst fastening (Image D)

•

Calibrating the Guide Fence:

1.  Using a pair of engineers’ squares, place one on the table surface (horizontal alignment)

with the second against the Guide Fence (vertical alignment) (Image E)

2.  Ensure the Guide Fence is square to the table surface and fasten the Fence Bracket,

followed by the Coach Bolts

Blade cover installation

Note:

The Blade Cover also acts as a guide for the workpiece. Use the Blade Cover to

secure your workpiece against the Guide Fence.
1.  Remove the upper half of the Blade Cover Holder (5) using a Phillips head screwdriver

(not provided)

2.  Place the Blade Cover (25) into the Blade Cover Holder and reinstall the upper half of

the holder (Image F)

3.  Install the Securing Knob (17) into the Blade Cover Securing Hole (6). Use the  knob to

secure the Blade Cover in place

4.  Install the second Securing Knob in the Height Adjustment Securing Hole (11)
5.  The Blade Cover assembly is now ready to use

Dust extraction

•  Adequate dust extraction is essential for a safe workplace; the fine fibres produced

from planning operations can be hazardous to health. Always wear a dust mask when
operating this machine

•  If using an external dust extraction device, install the Dust Port Adaptor (22) to the Dust

Extraction Port (16) using the screws provided (Image G)

•  Connect the external dust extraction device to the Dust Port Adaptor

Operation

WARNING:

ALWAYS wear eye protection, adequate respiratory and hearing protection,

as well as suitable gloves, when working with this tool.

Switching on and off

•  Lift the cover of the On/Off Switch Box (9) to gain access to the on and off buttons
•  Switch the machine on by pressing the green ‘I’ button
•  Switch the machine off by pressing the red ‘O’ button, or by pressing down on the

Emergency Stop Button (10)

Fence angle adjustment

1.  The Guide Fence (23) angle can be adjusted to accommodate a variety of workpiece

shapes

2.  Loosen the Coach Bolts (18) and adjust the Guide Fence to the desired angle
3.  Tighten the Coach Bolts to secure the Guide Fence  in place

Additional workpiece support

•  Position the Blade Cover (25) to rest lightly on top of the workpiece during cutting

operations for additional support

•  Loosen the Securing Knobs (17) to adjust the Blade Cover’s horizontal and vertical

positioning (Image H)

•  Tighten the Securing Knobs to secure the Blade Cover in position

Cutting depth adjustment

WARNING:

ALWAYS ensure the tool is switched off and disconnected from the power

supply before attempting to adjust the depth of cut. NEVER adjust the depth of cut when
the tool is running.
•  Turn the Cutting Depth Adjustment Knob (8) anticlockwise to increase the cutting depth

•  Turn the Cutting Depth Adjustment Knob clockwise to decrease the cutting depth
•  The cutting depth is displayed on a graduation scale located beneath the Cutting Depth

Indicator (7)

Bench planer operation

WARNING:

Keep hands and fingers away from the Blade Drum (3). When feeding a

workpiece in close proximity to the Blade Drum, always use a push-stick or pressure pad.

WARNING:

If the Blade Drum stops during the cutting process, immediately switch off the

power. Do not restart the tool part-way through making a cut, and do not attempt to make
partial cuts to the workpiece.

WARNING:

Always store the push-stick within easily accessible reach when operating

the bench planer.
•  With the machine off, adjust the Blade Cover (25) to lightly rest on the top of the

workpiece

•  Start the machine and wait for the Blade Drum to reach full operating speed before

commencing the cut

•  Slowly feed the workpiece from the Infeed Table (4) through the blade
•  Use a push-stick to feed the workpiece in close proximity to the Blade Drum
•  When the cutting procedure has finished, turn off the machine and wait for the Blade

Drum to stop revolving  before removing the workpiece

•  For a smooth finish, make multiple passes with a smaller cutting depth until the desired

amount of material has been removed

Accessories

•  A range of accessories and consumables, including face masks, dust extractors and cut

resistant gloves is available from your Silverline stockist. Spare parts can be obtained
from toolsparesonline.com

Maintenance

WARNING:

ALWAYS disconnect from the power supply before carrying out any

inspection, maintenance or cleaning.

Drive belt replacement

1.  Remove the three bolts securing the Drive Belt Cover (12) and remove the cover

(Image I)

2.  Replace the old drive belt, ensuring the teeth sit within the grooves on the pulley
3.  Refit the Drive Belt Cover and three securing bolts

Blade replacement

WARNING:

ALWAYS wear cut-proof gloves when handling the blades.

WARNING:

Only use blades that are specifically designed for the machine.

1.  Move the Guide Fence (23) away from the Blade Drum (3) area to give sufficient

clearance for blade removal

2.  Use the Multi-Wrench (20) to loosen the four blade bolts securing the blade assembly

approximately half a turn clockwise

Note:

The blade securing bolts need to be turned clockwise to loosen their grip on the

blade.
3.  Carefully remove the worn blade from the Blade Drum, and clean the blade slot of

any debris

4.  Insert the new blade, ensuring the tallest edge is facing the Infeed Table (4)
5.  Use the Bit Holder (21) to apply equal pressure to the blade, ensuring the blade is flush

with the Outfeed Table (2)  (Image J)

6.  Tighten the blade bolts by turning them anti-clockwise with the Multi-Wrench
7.  Repeat the operation of removing and inserting a blade for the other blade of the drum
8.  Turn the Blade Drum to ensure the newly fitted blade/s adequately clear nearby

components

Correct setting of blades

It is essential that the blades are set correctly or the workpiece will end up rough and
uneven. For a clean, smooth cut, the blades must be mounted so that the cutting edge is
absolutely level, ie parallel to the table surface.
During blade installation, ensure even pressure is asserted on the Bit Holder (21) when
tightening the blade securing bolts.

Nicks in surface

The cutting edge of one or all blades is not parallel to the rear base.

Gouging at start

One or all blades are not protruding enough in relation to the rear base.

General inspection

•  Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight
•  Inspect the supply cord of the tool, prior to each use, for damage or wear. Repairs

should be carried out by an authorised Silverline service centre. This advice also applies
to extension cords used with this tool
