Hot-spare drive in RAID1 or RAID5 systems
A hot spare drive is a drive included in the device as spare.
If you have ordered a device with a hot-spare drive, your device is equipped with this hot-
spare drive in the factory state.
If a defective drive is detected in the RAID1 or RAID5 system, the hot-spare drive is
automatically integrated instead of the defective drive during operation and assumes its
function.
Data synchronization to the hot-spare drive starts automatically.

5.3.2
System with 2 drives
You can order the device as a system with two drives. For information on hard disk capacity,
refer to your order documentation.
When the device ships, the second drive is then connected to SATA port 1 and not yet set up.
You have the option of backing up your data to this drive.
You can find information on how to boot the device from the second drive in the detailed
firmware/BIOS description, see "Important instructions and manuals for operating the device
(Page 11)".

Display of a defective drive of an onboard RAID system
A defective drive is displayed in conjunction with onboard RAID at the following locations:

System status displays (Page 31) on the front of the device
•
SIMATIC IPC DiagBase or SIMATIC IPC DiagMonitor monitoring software
•
"Intel® Rapid Storage Technology", see "Monitoring the onboard RAID system with "Intel®
Rapid Storage Technology" (Page 79)"
