5.3
Toothed components
The externally toothed components of the gear unit are casehardened. Helicalgear teeth are ground or
lapped. The high quality of the teeth leads to a significant noise reduction and ensures safe and reliable
running.
The gear wheels are joined to the shafts by interference fits and parallel keys. These types of joints transmit
with adequate reliability the torques generated.
5.4
Lubrication
5.4.1
Splash lubrication
The teeth and bearings are adequately supplied with oil by splash lubrication in case of horizontal mounting
position. As a result the gear units require very little maintenance.
5.4.2
Forced lubrication
Under special operating conditions the splash lubrication can be optionally supplemented or replaced with
a forcedlubrication system.
Depending on the application, the flange pump may have been replaced with a motor pump.
For the operation and maintenance of the gearunit lubrication system, which, depending on
the size, may include a pump, a pressure monitor and a coarse filter or double changeover
filter, the operating instructions specified in the annex must be observed.
The following configurations of forced lubrication are possible:
•
Addon oilsupply system (fixed to the gear unit, see item 5.7.3).
•
External oilsupply system (fitted separately, see item 5.7.4).
In the case of gear units with oilsupply system, before starting the unit up all monitors
must be connected so as to be ready for operation.
When operating and servicing the components of the oilsupply system, observe the operating
instructions of the components.
For technical data, refer to the data sheet and/or the list of equipment.
For an accurate illustration of the gear unit and oilsupply system, refer to the drawings in the gearunit
documentation.
5.5
Shaft bearings
All shafts are mounted in rolling bearings.
5.6
Shaft seals
Radial shaftsealing rings, labyrinth seals, Taconite seals or special seals at the shaft outlets prevent oil
from escaping from, or dirt from entering into the gear unit.
5.6.1
Radial shaftsealing rings
The sealing lips of the radial shaftsealing rings prevent oil from escaping from the shafts. An additional
dust lip protects against contamination entering from the exterior.
Use in an area with much dust is not possible.
