10 ISDN-Guard
The ISDN-guard will be installed together with the CAPI driver for the ISDN adapter. This program ensures
that all connections performed with the ISDN adapter will be logged in a display window.
The following data will be recorded and displayed (see also figure 10.1):
Date, time, duration of connections
Direction of connections (incoming or outgoing)
Connection cost/tariff units
ISDN service
Own telephone number as well as number of connection partner

Every month, a new file will be automatically created, to save the relevant data. Files of past months can be
recalled comfortably or manipulated with spread sheet programs.
An icon in the task bar will show, by means of flags, the status of both Adapter ISDN channels. A red flag will
indicate an active connection on the relevant ISDN channel.
When an outgoing connection cannot be established through the ISDN adapter, the ISDN-Guard program
reports the reason: “Called number is busy” or “No connection under this number”... .
When a connection cannot take place, you will receive feedback to help you solve the problem.
The ISDN-Guard operates as a call monitor for all incoming calls, i.e. all incoming calls on the ISDN ports will
be logged. For this purpose it does not matter if the call is intended for the ISDN adapter or for a telephone
connected at the same ISDN ports. The ISDN –Guard will inform you, who tried to reach which equipment at
what time. This function will be especially useful when an analog telephone is connected by means of an a/b
adapter or an ISDN telephone, without telephone logging facility.
Further filter functions are implemented in the ISDN-Guard so that undesired connections can be clocked.
Limitations to outgoing calls will be defined through a list of allowed numbers, which can be called, and a list
of forbidden numbers, which cannot be called. In the opposite direction, for incoming calls, the two lists are
available to allow or to block incoming calls.
