It is illegal to dump plastic trash anywhere into the ocean or nav i ga ble
wa ters of the United States. Violation of these re quire ments may result
in civil pen al ty up to $25,000, a fi ne of $50,000 and im pris on ment for up
to fi ve years.
PLASTIC - Includes but is not
lim it ed to: plastic bags, styrofoam
cups and lids, sixpack holders,
stirrers, straws, milk jugs, egg
car tons, synthetic fi sh ing nets,
ropes, lines, and bio or photo
de grad able plas tics.
GARBAGE - Means paper,
rags, glass, metal, crockery
(gen er at ed in living spaces
aboard the ves sel-what we nor-
mally call trash), and all kinds of
food, main te nance and cargo-
as so ci at ed waste.
“Garbage” does not include
fresh fi sh or fi sh parts, dish-
wa ter, and gray water.
DUNNAGE- Material used to
block and brace cargo, and is
considered a cargo as so ci at ed
waste.
DISHWATER- Means the liquid
residue from the man u al or au-
to mat ic wash ing of dishes and
cook ing utensils which, have
been pre-cleaned to the extent
that any food particles ad her ing
to them would not normally in-
ter fere with the operation of
au to mat ic dish wash ers.
GRAYWATER - Means drain-
age from a dishwasher, shower,
laun dry, bath, and washbasin,
and does not include drainage
from toilets, uri nals, hospitals,
and cargo spaces.
