Notes on dosage:
The UV dosage can be calculated from the product of the specified UV intensity and the exposure time for the
area being exposed. For this dosage value to be applicable, the comb must not be moved during exposure. In
addition, it is assumed that the UV radiation reaches the scalp unhindered which, however, is generally not the
case because of the patient’s hair.
Variations in the thickness of hair which blocks the UV radiation from reaching the scalp, as well as the
movement of the comb over a large surface will reduce the actual dosage per cm². This can be compensated
for by increasing the exposure time accordingly.
The following dosage chart is based on an exposure surface of 4 x 10 cm (40 cm²), with the comb remaining
stationary during exposure and where no hair prevents the UV radiation from reaching the scalp. The chart
therefore merely serves as a guideline and starting point for the proper dosage. Where the surface area to be
treated is larger, the exposure time must be increased in direct proportion to the size of the area. The provided
dosage plan is to be viewed merely as an example.
Only your dermatologist can prepare a dosage plan tailored to your specific requirements,
and only your dermatologist can monitor and evaluate the success of the treatment. Caution:
Too high a dosage can result in sunburn. In this case, stop treatment and consult your
dermatologist.
