Control of function
Electrostatic measuring methods are much more problematic than usual
electrical measuring. Therefore it is recommended to carry out a control of
function of the Manual Coulombmeter before and after each application,
especially when conducting safety relevant measuring. This may be done as
described below:
The device covers a measuring range of 5 to 200 nC. Inspection should be
done in the upper range. The measuring capacitor shows a capacity of 100
nF. When charged with 1.5 V this corresponds with a charge of 150 nC. So,
control of function is easily to be carried out with a battery of about 1.5 V
First the open-circuit voltage of the
battery has to be determined with a
voltmeter. In this example it is 1.62 V.
Then the Manual Coulombmeter and
the battery (single-pole) have to be
grounded. Thereafter the sphere
electrode is brought into contact with
the ungrounded pole of the battery.
The device should indicate (about)
162 nC. The control has to be carried
out with interchanged polarity and to
be confirmed thereby.
The control of function does not
replace readjustment to be performed
regularly!
