6 OPERATION
6.1
Demagnetising with the hand-held demagnetiser SAV 890.70
■
Keep steel parts away from the device during switching on.
■
Press the push button to switch on the device.
■
Move the device evenly across the workpiece in one direction at approx. 15 – 20 cm/s from left to right or from
right to left.
■
Continue moving the device after reaching the end of the workpiece (approx. 30 cm) and then move it
repeatedly across the workpiece in the same direction.
■
Please ensure that the demagnetiser is also approx. 30 cm away from the device when it is switched off,
as otherwise the workpiece could be magnetised again.
■
To avoid scratches on the workpiece, use a thin (0.5 – 1 mm) intermediate layer of paper or plastic.
■
The maximum penetration depth of the magnetic field is:
- 890.70 – HD-1: 20 mm
- 890.70 – HD-2: 40 mm
■
Thicker parts with residual magnetism on both sides have to be turned over to demagnetise the other side.
6.2
Demagnetising with the hand-held demagnetiser SAV 890.71
■
Once connected to a 230 V / 60 Hz mains socket, the hand-held demagnetiser is ready for use.
■
When the ON push button in the device handle is pressed, an annular air core coil in the device head is
supplied with mains frequency. The green LED above the ON button lights up.
■
In this condition, the device head is moved evenly across the entire length of the object to be demagnetised
so that the object is exposed to the magnetic field, which alternates with the mains frequency, all around. This
process reduces the residual magnetism. The process can be repeated several times if required.
Fig. 6: Move the hand-held demagnetiser SAV 890.71 across the object.
■
It is important to continue moving the device head approx. 30 cm beyond the end of the workpiece while
switched on. Then it can be switched off.
