VEHICLE LOCK PROCEDURES
Momentarily press the LOCK button on the control box. The
outside lights turn RED, and a warning horn sounds outside
the building. This horn is used to indicate that the WHEEL-
LOK
™
sled is moving. See Figure 8.
The horn sounds as the drive motor starts to move the
sled towards the truck/trailer wheels. When the leading
edge of the sled contacts the truck/trailer wheels, the
trolley continues to be pulled towards the dock wall,
rotating the crank tube. The crank tube lifts the barriers
to the locking position. See Figure 9.
The trolley continues to pull the sled towards the dock
wall, wedging the truck/trailer into a complete and
securely locked condition. See Figure 10. The electric
drive motor shuts off as the motor current matches the
trip point set on the current sensor in the control box.
If the barriers are fully raised, the inside lights change to
GREEN indicating that it is now safe to begin servicing
the truck/trailer. See Figure 10.
If an obstruction prevents the barriers from fully extend-
ing and not being able to provide a full and secure lock,
a warning horn sounds from the control box, and the
inside indicator lights flash red. Visually inspect the fault
condition and either have the trailer repositioned and re-
attempt to LOCK the trailer or secure the trailer by other
means. To silence the horn, turn the key switch to horn
silence position on the control box. The horn will shut off
and the inside lights will continue to flash red and green.
If the WHEEL-LOK
™
restraint does not respond to the
LOCK or UNLOCK command, make sure that the water
drainage from the outside dock area is working properly.
An automatic high water safety shut-off has been
incorporated in the motor box. If water level exceeds the
preset height, power to the motor drive system is shut
off until that level drops. See Liquid Level Control and
Probe on page 13.
VEHICLE UNLOCK PROCEDURES
Momentarily press the UNLOCK button on the control
box. The inside light turns RED, and a warning horn
sounds outside the building. This horn is used to
indicate that the WHEEL-LOK
™
sled is moving.
The horn continues to sound as the drive motor starts to
move the trolley and sled away from the truck/trailer
wheels. The sled moves towards the stored position,
returning the barriers to their stored position. Once the
barriers are stored, the sled continues to move towards
the stored position. See Figure 11.
When the sled reaches the stored position, the motor
shuts off and the outside light changes to GREEN
indicating to the truck driver that it is now safe to leave
the dock. See Figure 12.
VEHICLE RELEASE DURING A LOSS OF
POWER
During a loss of power, the WHEEL-LOK
™
will not
automatically disengage a vehicle being serviced. The
truck must be manually released by one of the following
methods. See Figures XX and XX.
Method 1
If the trailer has a sliding axle that is located a minimum
of six (6") inches forward of its rear position, then follow
this procedure.
1.
Temporarily unlock the axle locating pins.
2.
Move the truck ahead about six (6") inches.
3.
Re-lock the axle locating pins.
4.
Back the truck into the dock bumpers.
5.
Ensure the upper barriers have collapsed into the
sled base.
6.
The truck may now be driven out of the loading
dock.
