Point to Point Repeater
Radios may be wired as back-to-back repeaters, to extend the range of a point-to-point system. The
modems are not configured as repeaters (in
the menu they configured in Point to Point
Mode) but are wired together as back-to-back
repeaters.
Figure 9-3 and Figure 9-4 depict how a link
might be set up using a repeater. The repeater may be sitting on a hilltop or other elevated structure to link
the master to the slave. In this configuration it may be desirable to use Yagi antennas to extend the range
between the Repeater and either or both the Master and Slave.
Figure 9-5 shows
a link with two
repeaters between the
master and slave.
With two repeaters
there is clearly more
flexibility in getting
around obstacles and
greater total range is possible. Once again, it would be desirable to use external omni-directional antennas
with the repeaters, and attaching a Yagi to the master and slave would increase the range of the link. When
two repeaters are used there is no further degradation in the RF speed of the link, only the data latency is
affected.
