Are additional glow plugs necessary?
Glow plugs wear out, especially in the run-in phase. Thus, we recommend you always have some glow plugs ready for replacement. Glow plugs have different
heat ratings. They type of plug chosen has a great influence on the vehicle's performance. In the run-in phase, you should use a "cold" glow plug for high-
performance engines. After the run-in phase, you can change to a glow plug with an average heat rating.
Use glow plugs for RC cars only! The wrong glow plug, e.g. one intended for 4-stroke flight engines, prevents the engine from running properly and
makes adjustments more difficult.
Our tip:
Degrees of heat of glow plugs:
Standard glow plugs for fuel with added nitromethane (approx. 5%)
Cold glow plugs for fuel with added nitromethane (approx. 10 %)
Super cold glow plugs for fuel with added nitromethane (more than 10 %)
Inserting or replacing the glow plug
You need a glow plug wrench (wrench size 8, 9, 19, and 12).
Preheating the glow plug
A glow plug starter with rechargeable battery is put on the glow plug to heat it, causing the air-fuel mixture to ignite and start the engine. The glow plug starter is
removed when the engine is running properly.
e) Tools and aids
The model is ready to run (RtR). Before the first start, some basic settings have to be made or checked and the required accessories and equipment have to be
ready.
Go through the individual points of the check list to make sure your model is ready.
Tools
• Wheel brace M17
• Flat spanner (5 mm and 5.5mm) to set track and camber
• Allen key (1.5mm) for the grub screws on the adjusting rings of the throttle/brake and steering linkages
• Crosshead screwdriver
• Slotted screwdriver for the throttle stop screw and the main jet needle
Aids
• Cable ties
• Air filter oil
• After-run oil (special low-viscosity machine oil to lubricate and protect the combustion chamber from corrosive residues in the motor after operation)
f) Start-up checklist
Do the following:
• Check all screw connections and wheel nuts
• Check the alignment and tooth backlash of the drive
• Check the function of the servos
• Check the range of the remote control
• Check the basic carburettor settings
• Screw in the glow plug
• Fill in model fuel
• Run in the engine
Caution! Positions (front, rear, right, left) always refer to the vehicles centre line in forward direction of motion!
