3.1.5 Considerations for test setup
Cable selection and electromagnetic interference (EMI)
Electromagnetic interference (EMI) can affect the measurement results.
To suppress electromagnetic radiation during operation:
●
Use high-quality shielded cables, especially for the following connector types:
–
BNC
Double-shielded BNC cables.

Double-shielded SMA cables.

– USB
Double-shielded USB cables.

– LAN
At least CAT6 STP cables.

Always terminate open cable ends.

Ensure that connected external devices comply with EMC regulations.

Use the cable G-SMA EF316 for the IF connection to the SMA connectors of the
instrument and the R&S
QAT100. The cable is included in the delivery of the
R&S QAT100 and available under material number 1142.5889.00.

Use the cables TRX CRTL Cable, IF TX CBL and IF RX CBL for connection of the
instrument and the TRX frontend. The cables are included in the delivery of the
TRX frontend and available under material number 1142.5889.00.

Signal input and output levels
Information on signal levels is provided in the data sheet. Keep the signal levels within
the specified ranges to avoid damage to the R&S
AREG800A and connected devices.
To block DC components
►
NOTICE! Risk of instrument damage. DC voltage at the RF connectors can dam-
age the instrument.
● Never apply direct currents (DC) to the RF connectors.
Make sure that the values do not fall below the DC limits as given in the data
sheet.
● If your input signal has a DC component, insert a DC blocker.
