To fire the front coupler (if your engine has one), quickly tap the Bell button once
followedbyfourquicktapsoftheWhistlebutton, allowing approximately ½ second to
lapse betweeneachquickbuttonpress. Thesoundoftheliftbarandairlinedepletionwill
play,andtheknucklewillbereleased.
M.T.H. engines equipped with Proto-Sound 2.0 have speedcontrol capabilitiesthatallow
the engine to maintain a constant speedupanddowngradesandaroundcurves,much
like anautomobilecruisecontrol. Youcanaddordropcarsontherun,andtheengine
will maintain the speed you set.
While t h e engine is programmedtostartwiththespeedcontrolfeatureactivated,youcan
opt to turn it off. This means theengine's speed will fall as it labors up a hill andincrease
asittravelsdownward. Itisalso affectedbytheadditionorreleasingofcarswhileonthe
run.Becausetheenginewillrunmoreslowlyatagiventhrottlevoltagewhenspeed
control is onthanwhenitisoff,youshouldadjustthethrottletoalowerpowerlevelfor
operation with speed control off to avoid high-speedderailments. When speedcontrol is
off, the volume will droptoallowforbetterlow voltage operation.

transformer'sWhistle button one time then quickly taptheBellbuttontwotimes,

code toreturnittotheothercondition. You will want to do this duringtheinitialneutral
upon start-up if you ever couple thisengine toanother engine that is not equipped with
speedcontrol toavoiddamagingthemotorsineitherengine. Each time youshutdown
the enginecompletely, it will automaticallyturnspeedcontrolon.
You can lock your engineintoadirection(forward, neutral, orreverse) sothatitwillnot
change directions. To do this, put the engineintothedirectionyouwant(orintoneutral
to lock itintoneutral), run it at a very slow crawl (as slowly as it will move without
halting), andquicklybutfirmlytaptheWhistlebuttononcefollowedbythreequicktaps
oftheBellbutton,allowingapproximately½ second to lapse between each quick button
press. Two whistle blasts willindicatethattheengine has madethechange. The engine
will not change direction (including g o i n g into neutral) until yourepeatthe1whistle,3
bells code toreturntheenginetoitsnormalcondition, even if the engineiskeptwithout
power for extendedperiods of time.
