Whilst the wheelbase has undergone the simulated crash testing and every effort has been made to
ensure safety, Radcliffe Rehabilitation Services Ltd cannot accept any liability for injuries resulting
from use of this wheelbase when being transported in a road vehicle.

REPAIRS
Your Wheelchair Service will have a procedure for dealing with repairs, please contact
them for advice in the first instance.

MAINTENANCE
19.1
Regular Maintenance
•
The equipment should be kept in good condition, cleaned regularly with warm water
and mild soap. Furniture polish should never be used on the wheelbase.
•
The wheelbase brakes should be checked to ensure they function correctly by lock-
ing the two rear wheels before the brake lever reaches the end of its stroke.
•
The wheelbase brake pivots and bell crank mechanism pivot points should receive a
drop of oil from time to time.
•
Used with care and discretion, the wheelbase should require very little further regular
maintenance.
19.2
Inspection
The equipment should be carefully inspected,
At least annually, but more frequently if
used extensively out of doors with frequent kerbs or steps.
The following points should be
checked for security, excessive wear, adjustment and lubrication if applicable :

Castor wheels and castor crown bearings
•
Rear wheels and axle nuts
•
Push handle folding mechanism
•
Push handle adjustment - remove the handles and check that the shoulder is tight in
the inner sleeve. If loose remove, clean and apply loctite (telescopics).
•
Gas strut mountings and operating lever
•
Seat interface fixtures
•
Bell crank lever retaining cir-clips
•
Bell crank mechanism pivots
•
Frame damage due to incorrect restraint when transporting in a vehicle
•
Brake levers and cables
•
Brake adjustment
We recommend that the Wheelchair Centre should arrange this inspection.
