26 Maintaining the Printer
Section 5:
Maintaining the Printer
The Optical Disc Printer is designed to require very little
maintenance. Nevertheless, there are a few procedures you can
perform on a regular basis or as needed to ensure your
printer's best performance.
A.
CLEANING
THE THERMAL PRINT HEAD
It may be necessary to clean the
thermal print head
if your
printed images have a white, vertical streak from top to
bottom. This usually indicates that one or more heat elements
on the thermal print head is dirty.
To clean the print head, remove the
Ribbon Cartridge
Module
from the printer. Turn it upside down and remove the ink ribbon.
Locate the printer's print line, referring to the diagram below.
With isopropyl alcohol on a clean, lint-free white rag, wipe the
print head from side to side applying a small amount of
pressure. Reinstall the ribbon, insert the Ribbon Cartridge into
the printer, and print a disc. If the white, vertical line is still
evident, you may need to replace the print head.
NOTE:
A Print Head Cleaning Kit is available from your reseller or the
factory which is designed specifically for this periodic maintenance
procedure.
