Fig 3.3 Testing on a small/thin gold item using both the
conductive and non-conductive plates
If Test Results cannot be obtained accurately, refer to
Section 6 – Part A and Part B for errors that may occur
during testing.
ii. Using of Non-conductive and Conductive plates of
Testing Platform
The Testing Platform is made up of two types of surfaces
– an aluminium conductive plate, and a non-conductive
plate.
Using both the non-conductive and conductive plates at
the same time is recommended when testing on a gold
item that is very small or thin, with thickness of less than
2.5mm. This helps to prevent the testing liquid from
accidentally shorting the gold item to the aluminium testing
plate and displaying erroneous results (such as “Not Gold”
as the testing liquid has tested the aluminium testing plate
instead).
When testing such small or thin gold items, place the item
such that part of it is on the conductive aluminium plate
for connection purpose, and another part is placed on the
non-conductive plate.
Hold the probe pen against the part of the gold item that
is on the non-conductive plate, and press the dispenser
button (Fig 3.3).
